Foundation gives success tips to teachers

The Executive Director, Seedtime Foundation, Lagos, Mrs. Adetola Oladeji, has said that for  21st century teachers to inspire their pupils, they must think outside the box and become more creative in education delivery in the class.
She said this at a training session her foundation organised for teachers from both public and private schools in Lagos State, hosted by Dansol High School, Ikeja, Lagos.
With the theme, ‘The dynamic teacher,’ Oladeji noted that a dynamic teacher must be able to muster all the resources in the environment where he or she operates to inspire the pupils in his or her class.
She said, “A dynamic teacher must think outside the box. He or she must be able to muster everything in his or her environment to inspire the pupils in the classroom. There is a mediocre teacher who just tells, a good teacher who explains, a superior teacher who demonstrates and a great teacher who inspires the children.
“A great teacher inspires pupils to aspire to greater heights such as becoming great scientists and inventors.”
Oladeji, who said the training was third in the series, observed that from investigations she conducted, most teachers felt the teaching profession was not an enviable job. She, however, said such perception was baseless.
She urged them to carry themselves with dignity because whatever accomplishment anyone might have achieved in life, such a person must have been taught by a teacher at one point or the other.
“The teachers were divided into four groups and they were given hands-on training to create classroom display and resources. These classroom display and resources are to enhance learning,” Oladeji said.
Oladeji noted that the teachers also undertook a reading session where they were taught how to inspire their pupils to read.
At the end of the training, 10 outstanding classroom displays made by the teachers were selected by a team of five judges.
Oladeji said the 10 teachers behind the displays would be given resources and they would be expected to go back to their different schools and replicate such displays in their classrooms.
She said, “In September, we shall be going round the 10 schools to see what these teachers have done.
“At the end of the day, three winners who had distinguished themselves will emerge, and they will be rewarded handsomely during our Back To school/ Reward party in December.”
