Police charge 18-year-old with robbery

The police have arraigned an 18-year-old man, Azuka Osai, before the Yaba Magistrate’s Court for allegedly robbing one Faith Mpong of N40, 000 and a BlackBerry phone valued at N20,000.
The incident, which occurred on July 20 at Bariga area of Lagos State, was said to have led to an affray after the defendant also slapped the complainant in public.
The police said Osai, who was arraigned on four counts of robbery and assault, also disturbed the public peace.
The charge read in part, “That you, Azuka Osai, m, and others at large on July 20, 2013 at about 0540hrs at No 13, Keke Street, Bariga Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of the peace by disturbing the public and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 44(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State Nigeria, 2011.”
Osai said he was not guilty of the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs. M.A Ladipo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till September 30.
