‘Youths must shake off white collar job mentality’

Motivational speaker and education enthusiast, Mr. John Okri, has urged Nigerian youths to shake off the mentality of settling down for white collar jobs after graduation.
Rather, they should become more concerned about how to create employment for themselves, Okri said.
He stated that many of them had this mentality because many of the youth in the society were misinformed about what it takes to succeed.
Burdened by the need to effect a change, he stated that through the Global Read Entertainment Limited, he was set to stir up a positive revolution among the youth.
In what he called 9ja Knowledge Show, which will use both music and movie to drive this renewal project, Okri said secondary school pupils in Lagos would be taught what they needed to succeed in life.
He said, “There is the need for massive re-orientation of the youth.
“There is the need to shake off from their thought this white-collar job mentality.  They have been misinformed   about what it entails to succeed.”
Okri, who is the project director, said success was like a course that should be taught in school.
He added, “Success is a course like Engineering, Medicine and Law; when you teach people success principles from childhood, they will discover what to do, endure the resulting challenges and excel at it. “On the other hand, when taught just the skill/trade and profession, they rarely succeed at it.”
“For us to attract the youth, we are going to where they belong and change their future. We are using entertainment to drive the 9ja Knowledge show. We are starting with the Lagos State, before moving to other states.”
Tagged Lagos knowledge and creativity fiesta, with the theme: How much of greatness of Lagos do you know?, Okri adds that the programme will take place in the conventional 20 local governments in the state in which pupils will demonstrate their knowledge about Lagos.
