Political gambling in Taraba
Reports say recuperating Governor
Danbaba Suntai has sent a letter to the Taraba State House of Assembly,
seeking to resume work.
Suntai, on arrival at the domestic wing
of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, looked frail and
was aided to alight from the chartered aircraft that brought him.
Comments:
Okayraykay Chris-Emeka:
This is a replica of what played out during the late President Umaru
Yar’dua’s administration. The people feeding fat from Suntai’s table are
desperate to ensure that he returns to power, despite his apparent poor
state of health.
After carefully watching the footage
of his arrival on Sunday, I was convinced that Suntai, who left the
comfort of his office to fly an aircraft that led to his incapacitation,
cannot be the same again. These hungry politicians should just allow
the deputy to be sworn in as the substantive governor of the state
instead of their act of imposition.
Oju Olusegun-Sunday: If
the Taraba State House of Assembly members are on the side of the
people, they need to invite him to the floor of the parliament so as to
be sure if he’s truly ready in all fairness to assume office. The whole
world is watching.
Smart Mokuye: Why is it
that Suntai can’t stay away and recover fully first? If people are
pushing him, I think it’s better he and his immediate family apply
wisdom in this situation.

Rivers unending drama
The Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers
State has expelled 18 members loyal to the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi
Amaechi, including the Secretary to the State Government and 14 state
commissioners.
Comments:
Aderemi Taiwo: Students
of political science should make the scenario in Rivers State a case
study. A world class thesis can come out of such efforts. It’s a rare
lifetime opportunity.
Matomato: It will come
to a point in this country when the King must dance naked. We are
watching everyday as things unfold in Rivers State due to our
President’s subtle and apparent insistence that he must reign come 2015.
He has the power of incumbency. Like
National Republican Convention of those days will tell you; whether you
vote for us or you don’t vote for us, we shall win. But he shouldn’t
destroy democratic structures en route that journey.
Presley: It is so clear
that democracy is being threatened with the way and manner the Rivers
political imbroglio is going. In this current administration, my pain
is that the majority of these people engaged in this wrangling did not
fight for democracy we are enjoying today and they are from all
indications working towards destroying it!

Axed Minister of Youth affairs
President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered
the sacking of the Minister of Youth Affairs, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir,
over alleged disloyalty to him.
Comments:
Nomso Duke: I
knew there is a Ministry of Youth affairs at the federal level but
never knew the person manning the ministry. I have not even heard
anything about him in the recent past, let alone know that he is a
member of the Federal Executive Council. That’s to show you his level
of competence.
Moreover, he is too old to be a minister of youth affairs. We have younger guys that can deliver and carry youths along.
Nnamadi Wodu: The
President has the right to sack any minister who fails to carry out his
or her primary assignment diligently. After all, the position of a
minister is not an elective position but a political appointment.
