The
Chairman of Mushin Local Government Area, Mr. Olatunde Adepitan, has
splashed footballers from the LGA with awards and cash prizes worth
N1.5m for winning the 2012 Lagos Speaker’s Cup.
The footballers, who represented Mushin LG last year at the Speaker’s Cup, won the coveted trophy out of 38 participating teams.
During the presentation of the prizes on
Monday, each of the 30 footballers got N30, 000. The four coaches got
N120, 000 while the members of the sports committee were also rewarded.
Adepitan, who commended the footballers, said the winning of the trophy has promoted the LGA positively in sports.
He said, “Every responsible government
must invest heavily on sports because it is one of the ways to keep the
youths busy and productive. Football is a unifying factor in Nigeria;
people tend to forget their background, religion, tribes, race or
differences when a particular sport competition is on.
