Falana, Ubani appeal for Ozhekhome’s release

Mr. Femi Falana
Human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), and Chairman, Ikeja branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Monday Ubani,  have pleaded for the release of Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), who was kidnapped on Friday evening at the Ehor stretch of the Benin-Auchi motorway in Edo State.
Ozekhome , a prominent rights lawyer, was ambushed by kidnappers, after which he and his driver were taken away to an unknown destination.
Falana said since government could not guarantee the safety and security of the citizens, the available option was to appeal to the abductors to release him (Ozekhome).
He said, “Since the Nigerian state has demonstrated,  over and over again, of its incapacity to protect the  lives and property of citizens and aliens living in our country, I am compelled to appeal to the kidnappers to release Chief Ozekhome SAN without delay.
Ubani noted that the development was a reflection of insecurity in the country, thereby calling upon the state and federal governments to tackle unemployment.
Ubani said, “Very sad. It is a reflection of the state of insecurity in Nigeria. It sends bad signal to foreign investors that Nigeria is not safe. The federal and state governments are being called upon to tackle the issue of unemployment of teeming youths who have graduated from schools but have no work to do.
“The kidnappers are being called upon to release the human rights lawyer. He does not deserve the present trauma.”
