The
Federal Government’s effort at promoting investment in Nigerian made
products has got a boost with the unveiling of a packaged
nutrient-enhanced cassava flakes, called Ijebulawa garri.
Described as a uniquely packaged
ready-to-drink garri, the creamy-white, granular flour made from the
globally known Nigerian cassava, according to the producers, is set to
become a household and general staple food item among Nigerians,
especially the youth, who are often too busy to access cooked food.
A statement by the Managing Director, Balkeem Nigeria Limited, producer of Ijebulawa
garri, Mr. Akeem Salami, quoted the firm’s management as saying, “We
are delighted to officially announce the introduction of Ijebulawa
garri, a truly Nigerian brand of packaged ready-to-drink garri into the
Nigeria’s fast moving consumer goods market as an answer to the rising
desire to raise the profile of Nigeria’s locally-manufactured products.
It is hygienically produced, affordable and readily available food item
that is approved by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration
and Control.”
Speaking on the motivation for the
product’s production, Salami said the firm’s desire to venture into the
production of refined packaged garri in commercial quantity was borne
out of its genuine passion to tap into the ongoing campaign by the
Nigerian government to grow the economy through manufacturing of
locally-made products benchmarked against international standard.
He said it was also targeted at creating employment opportunities in the country.
The company’s Commercial Manager said, “Ijebulawa
garri is a final product of a thorough market research, which resulted
in the production of our uniquely designed product pack that is water
resistant, beautiful and with an inviting shelf-appeal, and packaged for
easy mobility. It is to be made available in most super markets across
Lagos and most parts of Nigeria at affordable price.
