The
Chairman, Ogun State Football Association, Ganiu Majekodunmi, has urged
stakeholders in sports to engage in collaborative efforts in the war
against age cheats in sports.
Majekodunmi said at the draws ceremony
for the maiden Sir Kessington Adebutu U-18 Football Championship in
Abeokuta on Saturday that the campaign was necessary for sports
development in the country.
The chairman said that the championship, for grassroots development, was to discover hidden talents to nurture them to stardom.
He said that the ongoing effort of the
Nigeria Football Federation in the conduct of MRI tests for members of
the Golden Eaglets was a welcome development.
According to him, the NFF has taken the
right decision by screening out those that could have brought
international embarrassment to the nation at various cadet
championships.
The chairman expressed delight at the
presence of more than 5,000 youths for the screening in Abeokuta and
described their turnout as “healthy for the game’’.
The sponsor, Adebutu, popularly called
`Baba Ijebu’, stressed the importance of sports in human capital
development in any society.
