The
Police in Osun State has arraigned a 40-year-old man, Ojetunde Odeniyi,
before an Osogbo Magistrate Court, for allegedly raping a 15-year-old
girl.
The accused person was alleged to
forcefully had sex with the victim in August at Idi Arere area of Ede,
Osun State at around 10.pm when the girl was returning home.
The prosecutor, Mr. Wilson Merete, told
the court said Odeniyi through his action violated the law and this was
punishable under sections 357 and 358 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol
11, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.
Odeniyi pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel for the accused person, Mr.
Babafemi Akande, urged the court to admit his client to bail on a
liberal term. He assured the court that the accused person would not
jump bail if the bail was granted.
The police prosecutor did not raise any
objection to the bail application, but urged the court to ensure that
the police officer in charge of the case to verify addresses of the
sureties for the accused person.
The Magistrate, Mr. Olusola Aluko, in
his ruling granted the accused person bail in the sum of N100,000 with
two sureties in like sum who are also resident in the state and possess
three years tax clearance certificate and two passport size
photographs.
