Bauchi
State Commander of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Jibrin
Shuayb, has said that the command has arrested and prosecuted 14
suspected pipeline vandals from January to September this year.
Shuayb, speaking in his office in Bauchi
on Monday in the aftermath of the fire incident along oil pipeline at
Magama Gumau in the Toro Local Government Area in the state, said that
the command arrested another group of vandals and recovered 28 jerry
cans of loaded fuel from them.
He said, “From January to date, we have
successfully prosecuted them all and the last one we arrested was at
Kirf, where we got 28 jerry cans of diesel.
The commander said the vandals were arrested in collaboration with military personnel.
He described vandalisation as a serious
issue, stressing that the collaboration with the military and other
security agencies was to ensure that the phenomenon was thoroughly
eradicated.
Shuayb added that the command is also
getting assistance from the state government to make sure that
vandalisation became a thing of the past
“We always warn anybody involved in such
ugly act that vadalisation is not a profession, it is a crime so they
should resist and look for another job because it is a sabotage to the
economy of the country and whoever engages in it and is caught will face
the wrath of the law.
While narrating the pipeline fire at
Magama Gumau in Toro local council, Shuayb said, “What happened was not
pipeline vandalisation because we tried to trace it but there was not
broken pipeline. The information we got was that the PMS pipeline at
Magama Gumau in Toro Local Govermnt area in the state suddenly burst
and caught fire.
He added that the NSCDC personnel were sent to the scene and fire service men were called to put off the fire.
The commander called on the public to
always provide the command with vital information that could lead to the
arrest of vandals in the state and assured them that such information
would be treated with utmost confidentiality
