The
former Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Leke Pitan, has said
that plans are underway for the inauguration of a medical village.
Pitan disclosed this at a two-day
Multi-Purpose Public Private Partnership capacity building workshop
organised by the members of the Association of General and Private
Medical Practitioners of Nigeria, in Lagos.
He said the purpose of the medical
village was to attract both foreign and local investors in the health
care sector, with the overall goal of making the state the medical hub
of the country.
“The medical village would be a
public-private partnership between the government and health care
practitioners in the state and beyond. Doctors must change from their
old ways of practice into modern medicine,” he said.
Also, the Director, Lagos State Health
Services Commission, Dr. Wunmi Salako, charged doctors in private
practice to strengthen the quality of health care services being offered
at the primary health care level.
The State Chairman of AGPMPN, Dr.
Adeyeye Arigbabuwo, said the association organised the workshop to
expose doctors in private practice to opportunities that abound in
working with government to provide affordable and accessible health
care.
