A
self confessed pastor, Mr. Daniel Okojie, has been arraigned at Ikeja
Magistrate’s Court by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly
attempting to defraud the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of
operations, Mr. Tunde Sobulo.
The accused was arraigned on six counts of impersonation and obtaining under false pretense.
The charge also stated that the accused
falsely presented himself to Sobulo as a representative of the Assistant
Inspector-General of Police in charge of Force Criminal Intelligence
Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Mr. Solomon Arase.
Okojie was said to have also forged a
Redeemed Christian Church of God identity card, with which he identified
himself as a pastor to policemen at the command.
It was said that luck ran out on Okojie
when he went to Sobulo to influence the transfer of 13 policemen to the
Oil Protection Guard Unit of the Force from their respective stations.
Okojie allegedly told Sobulo that Arase had ordered the transfer. He
also asked that N50,000 be given to him for Arase.
Sobulo was said to have called called
Arase to confirm Okojie’s request. He was detained when Arase denied
knowledge of the matter.
The charge read in part, “That you
Daniel Okojie, between the year 2010 and 2nd September, 2013, at the
Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, GRA Ikeja, Lagos State, in the
aforesaid Magisterial District, did knowingly presented a false Redeemed
Christian Church of God identity card as an Area Pastor with intent to
use or acted upon as genuine, to the prejudice of another and thereby
committed an offence contrary to Section 361(1)(a) and punishable under
Section 361(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
“That you Daniel Okojie(M) on the 2nd
day of September,2013 at Lagos State Police Command Headquarters GRA
Ikeja did with intent to defraud one Tunde Sobulo, M, falsely represent
yourself as an aide of Assistant Inspector of Police, Solomon Arase, a
representation you know to be false and thereby committed an offence
punishable under Section 371(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of
Nigeria 2011.
“That you Daniel Okojie on the same
date, time and place in the aforesaid Magisterial District did falsely
represent yourself as a member of the Nigeria Police Force, a
representation you know to be false and thereby committed an offence
punishable under Section 78(a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos
State of Nigeria 2011.”
Okojie pleaded not guilty.
The magistrate, Mrs. Oshodi Makanju, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000.
The case was adjourned till October 4, 2013 for trail.
