Top stars to grace Friends Africa HIV campaign

Retired former football stars worldwide are expected to attend the second edition of the Friends Africa World AIDS Day Superstars Play for Life match, scheduled for November 30, organisers of the event have said.
The ex-footballers will play against a team of players from the entertainment industry at the Campos mini stadium, Lagos.
The programme is organised by FA – an NGO soliciting support for the fight against AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis – to create awareness about HIV/AIDS and also help stop discrimination against people living with the deadly disease.
Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games gold medalist and Goodwill Ambassador of the project, Emmanuel Babayaro, said arrangement had been made to bring in French World Cup winners, Zinedine Zindane, Christian Karembeu and Patrick Vieira; as well as Dutch duo, Ruud Gullit and Patrick Kluivert to play alongside their Nigerian counterparts.
“We have been reaching out to these renowned players and we hope it materialises. The likes of AY, DBanj, Olamide and Iyanya will play for the entertainment team and they are allowed to invite their foreign counterparts as well,” Babayaro said in Lagos on Tuesday.
The 1993 U-17 World Cup winner added that aside creating awareness for the common man, the programme has also educated the ex-footballers.
