I don’t know if I’ll surpass Chidinma, Iyanya –Olawale, winner MTN Project fame

Still basking in the euphoria of his success, the winner of MTN Project Fame Season 6, Olawale Ojo, says only God can determine if he will surpass the achievements of his predecessors like Chidinma and Iyanya.
Olawale beat five other finalists with his performance of Asa’s song ‘Beautiful’ to get the grand prize of N5m, a brand new car and a recording contract.
He says, “The experience was awesome because we sang all through and that’s what I know how to do best. I did not really expect to win because we all had equal chances. If I did not win, I’d still be grateful to God for making me a part of the top six. Only God knows how my journey is going to be because he brought me here. So, I don’t know if I would surpass Chidinma and Iyanya.”
The 400 level student of Agronomy at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology says he has always wanted to be a doctor.
He tells Saturday Beats that it he is the first musician in his family.
“I got to know about Project Fame on the television. I wanted to become a medical doctor before I got into the university where I discovered my passion for music. This is actually the first time I tried to be on the show. My friend actually advised me to give it a try as I discovered my talent when I got to the university and joined the choir,” he says.
The winner says of his experience in the house, “The first five weeks were quite challenging because I didn’t open up on stage. But after then, I started enjoying myself due to the help of the faculty members. When my parents knew about the competition, they were happy about it and they supported me with prayers. They were so excited and I saw the happiness written all over them. There were times when I wanted to quit, but I had to encourage myself.”
He says his contribution to the music industry in Nigeria will be to carve a niche for himself and give good music. Olawale says since he was declared winner, his phone and social media accounts have been very busy.
“I think my quota to the industry will be to be myself, identifying my unique selling point and showcasing it in my music career, going the extra mile to add values. These are the things I can add to the industry,” he says.
