Mushin youths take independence walk

Mushin youths take independence walk
Some youths in the Mushin area of Lagos State, under the aegis of Oluwashina Youths Empowerment Forum, trooped out on Tuesday to mark the 53rd year independence of the country.
The train moved from the palace of the Onitire of Itire to the Oloto of Itire and later to the Itire Police station, where they were received by the policemen on duty.
The youths, who were donned in national colours of green-white-green, said the walk was to express their wish for peace and progress in the country.
Mushin is notorious for cult activities and supremacy clashes in Lagos State.
But the founder of the forum, Obafemi Adeyinka, said other youths in the area believed that despite the problems in the country, there was hope.
He said, “Nobody can make Nigeria great except the youths. That is why we must begin to take initiative and responsibility now because we all have a part to play to make Nigeria great.”
Co-founder of the forum, Mr. Charles Kodaolu, said youths must be sensitised to stay back in the country and make things work instead of seeking greener pastures in foreign land.
The financier of the project and Chairman of the Elders Forum, Mr. Jones Mark, observed that the Oluwashina Forum was a way of complementing government’s effort, and helping to improve the lives of the youths.
“In this area, we are not just depending on the government to do everything for us. We are making efforts to create jobs for our youths, assist them with their education, empower them through skills acquisition, among others,” he said.
He added that the forum had changed the lives of the youths for the better as they had become more respectful and purposeful.
A resident of the area, Adejuwon Adegoke, said the independence day was a way for Nigerians to thank God for life amidst the problems of poverty and suffering.
The forum marked the rest of the day with dancing and health talks.
