Zlatan Ibrahimovic is concentrating solely on Paris Saint-Germain’s success this season, and not his personal aims.
The Sweden international scored twice as PSG brushed aside Benfica 3-0 in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
Ibrahimovic has scored just four goals
from 11 appearances in all competitions for the French champions so far
this season, but has provided five assists for his team-mates.
And having already struck up a
formidable partnership with new signing Edinson Cavani, who has five
goals in 10 games, Ibrahimovic is happy to take a back-seat role in
order to help the team’s chances of winning.
“It feels very good,” he said after the
Benfica win. “We played a good game and I was lucky to score two goals,
but the team did well and that’s the most important thing.
“The individual part comes second; when
the team is doing well it’s easier to play. Today I think we kept at a
high level; we worked a lot, we ran a lot and we won the game.
“This gives us a lot of confidence, but we’re not losing our heads and thinking too far ahead.
“The next game is Anderlecht and we’re still in the group (phase).
“We’ve played two games, we’ve won two
games. The door is open now to qualify for the next round, but we’re
still in the group with difficult games to play and we don’t
underestimate anybody.
“This was just a game we played for the group; we took three points today, so the next game will be even more difficult.”
