The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence
Corps has called for the development of a comprehensive data bank on
every Nigerian and foreigners in the country as a way of tackling
terrorism.
The Commandant-General of NSCDC, Dr. Ade
Abolurin, said this on Saturday during a national stakeholders’
security conference in Calabar, Cross River State.
The conference had the theme, ‘The role of individuals and organisations in combating terrorism and insecurity in Nigeria’.
Abolurin said since terrorism had become
a global threat, it was necessary for the country to develop a
reliable intelligence-based approach, through which security report on
every Nigerian and foreigners would be kept and updated.
The NSCDC boss, who was represented by
the Cross River State Commandant of the corp, Dr. Benito Eze, said for
Nigeria to win the war against terrorism, its intelligence apparatus
must be efficient and reliable.
He said, “This is why the United States
of America stands tall among the countries on the globle because of its
meticulous system of gathering intelligence.”
