Fed Cup: Enyimba advance to semis

Enyimba have qualified for the semi-finals of the Federation Cup after beating Nasarawa United 1-0 in one of the quarter-finals at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
The lone goal, scored by Bobby Kingsley in the 48th minute, brought alive an otherwise dull game from both sides as the fans began to shout for more.
Enyimba coach, Imama Amakapabo, said the Aba team suffered from fatigue after being on the road for too long.
“It was a satisfactory game because we were expecting our opponents to be tough. We clashed recently in a league game and we knew the challenge they gave us then,” Amakapabo said after the game.
“What you see today (Wednesday) is not a bad performance from the players because they’ve been on the road for awhile and this has resulted in fatigue. We will leave here again to play another league game this weekend.”
Nasarawa United goalkeeper, Dami Paul, admitted their opponents deserved to be winners of the encounter, saying the missed chances from his teammates could have made the difference.
“Enyimba have quality players, and they played with determination. We were not bad too but we lost several opportunities to change the game,” Paul said.
In another match of the day, Heartland failed to defend their title after falling to Akwa United 5-4 in a penalty shootout in Kaduna. David Tyagase had put the Naze Millionaires ahead in the first half but Akwa United fought back to get an equaliser through Ini Akpan in the second half.
