The
Courier Regulatory Department of the Nigerian Postal Service has
threatened to penalise all corporate bodies that undertake delivery of
items for a fee or commission without licences to do so.
The Head, Courier Regulatory Department
of the Service, Dr. Simon Emeje, gave the warning in Lagos after the
department clamped down on illegal courier firms.
He said, “We are giving a notice to all
such companies to register on or before September 30, 2013. Note that
failure to comply will attract a severe sanction.”
Emeje said based on courier laws and
regulations, all corporate bodies that undertake delivery of items for a
fee or commission were considered to be rendering illegal courier
services if they were not licensed.
He, however, advised such corporate
bodies to either register for courier licence or contract such
deliveries to licensed courier companies.
The department succeeded in clamping down on 15 illegal courier service providers in Lagos.
They include: Al-Dawood Agency, A.M.
Courier, Alternative to Air Cargo Express Services, Parcel Force, IAT
Courier Service, Leader Courier, Rich Crystal Courier, Business Mail
Express, Dawn Courier Service, Cleveland and Margates Limited.
Others include: Delivery Network
Limited, Direct Messages and Services, EDS Express, Funeko Links
Transport and Courier Services and Global Parcel Services.
