The Enugu Rangers forward says he’s happy to have
been given an opportunity to prove himself while Sunday Mba says he’s
glad the team made it to the CHAN tournament
Enugu Rangers striker Alhaji Gero, who put in a massive shift in his Super Eagles
debut against the Elephants of Cote D’ Ivoire on Saturday in Abidjan,
said he gives thank to the coaching crew and Nigerians for always
believing in him and he will never let them down.Gero, who replaced Gomo Onduku in the second half of the encounter, put up a five star performance that many at the Robert Champroux Stadium in Abidjan, thought curtailed the home side from going forward for a decisive third goal as the Eagles lost 2-0 but qualified 4-3 on aggregate.
“I am happy that we qualified and I’m sure we will not disappoint the country at the tournament proper,” Gero said at the end of the match.
Africa Cup of Nations winner and the man who has been described as the Elephants’ killer, Sunday Mba, who also spoke at the end of the encounter said he was unlucky on the evening but was happy that the team made it to the CHAN finals in South Africa next year.
“It’s not every day that I will score against the Ivorians but I am happy that we made it to the finals and I’m sure whether I’m there or not, the team will do well in South Africa,” Mba said.
