Ekiti plans security cameras to tackle crime

Ekiti State Government on Wednesday said it would install closed-circuit television cameras at strategic places in Ado Ekiti to combat criminal activities.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Mr. Kayode Jegede, said this at a briefing in Ado Ekiti.
Jegede said, “We will install security cameras around the town to monitor criminal activities.
“It is not to monitor the law-abiding ones but to monitor criminals and this will assist security agencies in doing their jobs better. The streetlights already installed and working perfectly will also assist the cameras to capture sharp images.”
He also stated that the state government would introduce  metering system to  ensure appropriate billings for water consumption by residents of the state.
According to him, the metering system will prevent waste and ensure that consumers pay for only what they use.
Jegede, who hailed the performance of the administration in the provision of social amenities, said the administration had spent N14.7bn on infrastructure.
Giving a breakdown of the sum, the commissioner noted that the state government spent N5bn on the provision of water; N2bn on electrification projects; N7bn on legacy projects and N700m on information and communication technology.
In a related development, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Tayo Ekundayo, said no fewer than 700,000 residents had benefitted from the free health services provided by the state government.
He stated this in Oke Ayedun in Ikole Local Government of the state at a meeting organised by his ministry.
